In this class, you will learn the following:
Part 1 –
–Review your manual to your machine – what to look for
–Familiarize yourself with the basic parts & features of a sewing machine
–Set up & threading – what type of thread to use & why
–Top tension & bobbin basics (how to spin a bobbin; how to load the bobbin; what types to purchase for your machine and how to store your bobbins)
–Needle education – why do we use different types
–Straight stitch, zig zag and others found on your machine to practice
Part 2 –
–Review & understand patterns, measurements, how many yards to purchase per product, how to cut & lay out patterns, & read sewing instructions
–Select a Sewing Project to be sewn on Basic Sewing 101-Part2: a Pin Cushion, a Dog Chew Toy or a Coaster); layout, cut & sew project
You get 20% off all other materials when you buy your supplies at the shop or over the phone.
–Sewing Machine (including any tools that come with your machine)
–Sewing Machine Manual (if you do not have a printed-out copy, please be prepared to bring a downloaded version)
Thread
–Bobbins for your Machine (note: always check the package of bobbins when purchasing to ensure that your sewing machine model appears for usage)
–Universal Pressor Foot (usually it’s included with your sewing machine when purchased)
–Machine Needles per your machine; both single & double needles (note: always check the package of needles when purchasing to ensure that your sewing machine model appears for usage)
–Sewing Machine Toolbox – (Note: all can be available at The Sewing Station Learning Center Online Boutique or NWSC):
–Hand Stitch Needles
–Scissors for cutting fabric
–Snippers for cutting threads
–Seam ripper
–Tape measure and/or ruler

–For Part 1: Any scrap fabric will do to stitch out samples
–For Part 2: Two different types of Fat Quarters or bring their own fabric
