Cost: $75

All event dates and times:

August 1 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Event Navigation

This 3-hour class will take the mystery and frustration out of threading and operating a basic serger. There is a significant learning curve for using an overlock machine, or serger, but no serious sewing room is complete without one. It’s a must have for sewing knits and giving a professional finish to all your sewing projects. Scope of the class:   This class covers only the main functions on a basic overlock machine, or serger.  Five-thread functions, cover stitch and chain stitch are not introduced in this class.

All fabric and thread for use in the class will be provided as part of the class fee.

Learn on your own machine – Bring your serger and all its accessories and MANUAL to class and we’ll teach you to use your own machine.
Build confidence in your skills – Get plenty of support and practice threading your machine and setting it up for 2, 3 or 4-thread functions.
Develop your knowledge – The serger or overlock machine is not a sewing machine.  While there are some similarities, there are many differences.  Learn the function of your machine and how each setting affects good stitch quality.  It is not all about tension.
Learn tips and tricks – Take advantage of the experience of our instructor and all that she has learned in the industry and as an owner and user of the serger. Take your sewing skills to the next level and make the serger your new BFF!

Even new sewers can learn to use a serger, but you must have some proficiency and familiarity with a sewing machine in order to get full value from the class.

You must have spent some time with your serger. In other words, you have to have taken it out of the box and made yourself familiar with it.

Experience with basic sewing construction. In other words, you have successfully moved fabric through your sewing machine.

Your machine must be in working order. Because of the pace of the class, we do not have the time to determine if your machine works and troubleshoot any machine problems related to proper function of the machine.

What You Need to Bring to Class

–-Your serger machine in good working order, including your owner’s manual
–-machine accessories that came with your machine
–-basic sewing notions & supplies, such as pins, fabric scissors, seam gauge, stitch ripper, notebook, fabric marker/chalk, pen and pencil.
