In this class, you will learn the following:
Part 1 –
–Review your manual to your machine – what to look for
–Familiarize yourself with the basic parts & features of a sewing machine
–Set up & threading – what type of thread to use & why
–Top tension & bobbin basics (how to spin a bobbin; how to load the bobbin; what types to purchase for your machine and how to store your bobbins)
–Needle education – why do we use different types
–Straight stitch, zig zag and others found on your machine to practice

Part 2 –
–Review & understand patterns, measurements, how many yards to purchase per product, how to cut & lay out patterns, & read sewing instructions
–Select a Sewing Project to be sewn on Basic Sewing 101-Part2: a Pin Cushion, a Dog Chew Toy or a Coaster); layout, cut & sew project

–neutral color thread for piecing

–Sewing Linings
–Learning the technique & benefits of under-stitching, top stitching and why should we zigzag (or serge) to finish our garments
–Sewing basic Hems – Serge/Zig Zag & Sew Hems and/or Fold-over Hems
–Specialty sewing techniques – Flat-Felled Seams

Part 2 –
–Sewing Project for Part 2: How to Sew a Wine Bottle Holder or how to sew a cross body handbag with linings

Always wanted to learn to sew but never found the time? Our 4-session sewing class is perfect for you! As you get to know your sewing machine, you’ll learn and practice basic skills like straight stitches & seams. You’ll gain confidence by creating 4 projects: a tissue holder, pillowcase, and pajama pants. We provide sewing pattern printouts, 1.5 yards of Tru-Grid, and a pack of 3/4” elastic. Using the CutRite Slit’N Sew Drunkard’s Path Template (8-inch Finished) is a brilliant way to conquer your fear of curved piecing! What makes this specific ruler a gamechanger is its patented “Slit’N Sew” method: it cuts tiny slits directly into the fabric pieces so you can align them perfectly as you sew without needing a single pin. Layer Cake squares or pre-cut 10″ squares work perfectly for this class. Class fee includes batting and glue stick! If are just starting out on your journey of sewing apparel, you will love to attend this fundamental Basic Pant Sewing Class!

In this class, you will learn the following:
—Measuring your waist, hips, inseam & out seam to adjust patterns for a custom fit
—How to layout, cut & the order of sew for an elastic waistband pair of pants
—How to add inseam pockets to any pair of pants
—How to embellish any pair of pants

Prerequisite: Basic Sewing 101 and 102 or familiar with sewing technology. Please see those class descriptions to ensure that you are familiar with and have performed these functions before signing up for this class.

What to Bring to Class

IMPORTANT! Please purchase at Walmart or Etsy and allow 6-10 business days before signing up for this class as this will allow enough time for the product to arrive via shipping limitations)

—Fabric – purchase cotton blends, cotton or knit fabrics per the suggested fabrics listed on the package of the pattern; HINT: usually 2-4 yards of material should be sufficient to make a pair of pants
—Notions: 2 yards of 1” wide elastic is provided by The Sewing Station; however, if you choose to bring your own, make sure it’s the proper dimensions
—In-Seam Pocket and/or Waistband Pattern Pieces: this will also be provided by The Sewing Station as add-ons to this pattern

–Create buttonholes, machine stitch a button; direction of standard buttonholes, opening buttonholes
–Sew on buttons using the machine button features, aligning buttons to buttonholes, cross stitch and standard button applications

Part 2 –
–Sew a Cosmetic Pouch/Bag with lining, buttonhole & button closure; pattern layout, cut and sew/assemble Bag/Pouch
